Garage floor epoxy for Houston homes

Garage floors take more punishment than any other slab in the house: hot tires, dropped tools, oil, and Houston humidity working up from underneath. We grind every garage down to clean concrete first, then coat it in flake, solid color, or metallic, most two-car garages finished in two days.

Why the garage floor fails first

A garage floor takes more abuse than any other slab in the house. Hot tires roll across it every day, oil and coolant drip onto it, and Houston humidity pushes moisture up through the concrete underneath. Most garage floors that fail did not fail because the coating was bad. They failed because the concrete under the coating was never opened up.

That is the whole reason a diamond grind comes before anything else. It gives the epoxy something to grip instead of sitting on top of a slab that has been acid-etched or left sealed and dusty.

A coating is only as good as the concrete under it, which is why grinding comes first instead of being an upgrade you add later.

Grind, not acid etch

We diamond-grind the slab down to clean, open concrete on every garage, no exceptions. Acid etching is faster and cheaper, and it is the reason a lot of garage floors fail in year two. Grinding takes off the top layer of concrete and gives the coating something to bite into.

Cracks, pits, and spalls get filled and ground flush before anything else goes down, so the finish reads as one surface instead of a patched-over slab. If a slab has active moisture or movement we tell you before we quote it, instead of coating over a problem and hoping it holds.

Two days, most garages

Most two-car garages go from bare concrete to a finished floor in two days: grind and repair on day one, base coat, flake or color, and the clear topcoat on day two. Bigger garages and three-car bays get a schedule with the quote.

Before the crew shows up, cars come out and shelves and bins come off the slab. Anything heavy, we help move it.

Foot traffic is fine the evening of day two. Bikes and boxes go back after a day, and cars go back after a couple of days once the topcoat has fully hardened. A hot tire on a floor that has not finished curing can leave a mark, so we ask for a little patience on the car.

Flake, solid color, or metallic

Flake is the floor most Houston garages get: a pigmented base coat with vinyl flake broadcast to full coverage, scraped smooth, and sealed under a clear polyaspartic topcoat. It hides dust and tire marks and comes in nine blends off the truck.

Solid color is cleaner and shows more of what is under it. Metallic is a showpiece finish, poured and worked by hand so no two square feet match, for a garage that doubles as a living space.

Most people already know which garage they are quoting: one car, two, or three. Tell us the size and the finish you are leaning toward, and Victor confirms it on the walkthrough or from your photos.

Built for Houston conditions

Moisture-tolerant primers and UV-stable polyaspartic topcoats are the standard on every job, not an upgrade, because humidity coming up through the slab and August sun through an open garage door are not optional here.

Diamond grinding opens the slab so the coating bonds to it, and the polyaspartic topcoat is made for tire heat, which is where hot-tire pickup usually starts on a floor that was not prepped right.

Somar is based in Spring and works from Conroe in the north to League City in the south, so the same Houston-proofed system shows up on a garage floor in every direction from the shop.

What you get with the quote

Send the form or text a photo of the garage. Victor looks at the space, asks a question or two if he needs to, and sends a written number within 48 hours. No obligation, no pressure, no price pulled from a chart.

The quote covers the system, the prep, and the schedule, in English or Spanish. Victor is the one who quotes it, preps it, and coats it, so the person answering your questions is the same person running the grinder on the day.

Your two days

  1. Before we arrive

    Clear the floor

Cars out, shelves and bins off the slab. Anything heavy, we can help move.

  2. 1
    Day 1, morning

    Grind and repair

Diamond grinders open the concrete. Cracks and pits get filled and ground flush. It is loud for a few hours, with dust control on every machine.

  3. 1
    Day 1, afternoon

    Base coat and flake

Pigmented base coat goes down, then the flake broadcast. The floor stays off limits overnight.

    Keep off
  4. 2
    Day 2, morning

    Scrape and seal

Loose flake gets scraped and vacuumed, then the clear polyaspartic topcoat locks everything in.

  5. 2
    Day 2, evening

    Walk on it

Light foot traffic is fine by the evening.

    Walk on
  6. A couple of days later

    Park on it

Cars, bikes, and the heavy stuff go back once the topcoat has fully hardened.

    Park on

Questions about this floor

Foot traffic the next morning, bikes and boxes after a day, cars after a couple of days. Polyaspartic topcoats cure fast, but a hot tire on a floor that is not fully hardened can leave a mark, so we give the car a little extra time.

Not on a floor that was ground and primed right. Hot-tire pickup happens when a coating sits on top of sealed or dirty concrete instead of gripping into it. Diamond grinding opens the slab so the coating bonds to it, and the polyaspartic topcoat is made for tire heat.
